Hanging out with people who for years thought that witnesses did not need to plan for the future,, that was 35 years ago and I still
kick myself for buying into that mindset.
But when most everyone around believes it, it seems like the "normal" thing to do.

while the major news outlets love to hype up the ny mosque issue, the facts speak otherwise:.
- the ny landmark commision did not vote in favor of a mosque close to the world trade center site.
they have no authority to do so.
I have a funny feeling that there will be many problems at this location during, and after construction.
i went into my favorite cafe this afternoon for lunch and saw a husband and wife that go to the congregation i used to go to.
the woman is a pioneer and has been for years and her husband is an elder who i've talked to a couple of times since i stopped going to meetings 3 years ago but i have not talked to her in 3 years.. when i got my lunch, i looked up and noticed them sitting by the window so i went over to them and said hello.
he said hi but when i said hello to the woman she just kinda looked at me.
At least you and your wife are happy,, that is the main thing .
When my wife and I left, we were quite united, and strong about our decision.
It reminded me of that story "The little engine that could', going up the hill (as a JW deciding to leave the org.) I think I can, I think I can .
But once the top is reached, ( making the decision to leave) going downhill was easier than we thought.
this has not happened to me personally ,but was told to me by a reinstated member.
a sister who was reinstated, accompanied her mom to another sisters house for dinner.
and a movie.
Personally, if that had happened to my child and me i would have left and told this so called "friend" to leave me alone.

excuse my lack of computer/searching skills here, but i have been doing a search for the reason that the literature is now offered on a contribution basis only.. i remember back in the late 80's or early 90's when the announcement was made from the platform stating that we were on longer to put a price on the magazines / books,,,, just ask for a contribution.. somewhere i remember reading on this site that there was a underlying legal reason this was done, when it was announced.. everyone was either saying that this was a "speeding up" of the work, or the usual "the end must be right around the corner" routine.. i really appreciate any comments .

i am surprised how many active jws there are on facebook.. has the society ever put anything in print discouraging facebook in particular?
would someone on facebook be viewed as "weak spiritually"?.
was facebook named in outlines of convention talks?
I have been out of the jw religion now for two years.Once in a while I do a little trolling, and just see what the witnesses from N. Illinois have been doing. ( FYI : I have NO witness friends on FB)
For a long time I noticed that they were much like the "world" , swearing, drinking, and making fun of authority figures.
But it seems within the past two months 99% have locked up their profiles.
Maybe that is a way for them to continue being on FB, and not letting anyone outside their friend - list know what they are honestly thinking, or doing.
Funny thing, there is a guy who is in his early 60's, and once was a powerful elder, but gave it up. I noticed that he now has an account and is friends
with many of the young ones in the hall.
I think that he is keeping his hand on the pulse of the young people and secretly reporting back to the elders, telling them what is really going on.

i'm in the living room, watching my wife interact with our baby girl.
the pure joy and innocence emanating from my beautiful baby is beyond anything i could have every imagined.
i see the smile on my wife's face.
when I became a parent I would have sold my soul, given my life, climbed any mountain to make sure that the child was taken care of.
when I was a witness my sensiblility radar was no doubt influenced by the witnesses to an extent,
My advice to you would be to focus on your child your # 1 priority.
As a witness years ago, I was influenced by the elders, and others who put the wtbts beliefs first in their lives.
I'm soooo thankful that my wife and I were not "diehard' witnesses
let common sense be your guide as life goes on,,,, not a fractured belief system
And congratulations on becoming a parent.
From my experience, ( two teenage boys) it is the best and most important thing that will ever happen to you
